Small Work #3

#1

#6

these are writings that i rolled up into small scrolls to fit into a cigarette pack, which was one of my objects for the final zine project. These are short poems of situations a Venezuelan either typically deals with or has dealt with at one point in their lives.

I am uploading a couple of screenshots that I was taking into consideration to use for the zine.

small work #2

This is one of the collection of my ideas for brainstorming for the zine which includes sketches for various subjects followed by a abstract short poems labeled on top of the artwork with post it notes making the artwork interactive.

Final in depth Project: zine/narrative

My project consisted of a to defragmentation towards myself and others in the direction of, "
a simple explaination something or situation that was significant in your life" this information. Transcends unto the cassette which I combined multiple audio and collages it togethere from interviewimg 12 people, recorded sounds of myself skating, and video posts recorded by Venezuelan and Ukrainian students. I tried making a wallet because giving the state how I lived my whole life mostly everything is diy and that's what I used to wrap my zine around. The zine is a collaborative work a collection of screenshots of a friend of mine from Ukraine intertwined similar ideals, but showing that its coming from opposite sides of the world, I choose accordion style meant to be viewed from the the top to the bottom not sideways, and I made it in the style of wallet picture sizes kind of when in films or cartoons someone pulls out their wallet and say hey these are a picture of my 16 kids and all the photos drop same way. My second object displayed on the picture is a cigarette pack depending on the pack back the brand varies, it holds 6 short poem/stories scrolls held by dental floss string that have truths inside and once unraveled it can't be put back together that is because I am going with the idea that once these ideals are brought up there is no way the viewer can be ignorant to what is hapenning. Third object, is a golden cased lipstick and I took the all the paint from inside and took it out and melted for half eit here a pen or used hot glue to hold an xacto blade. This comes from how Venezuelans interface with themselves and how they carry weapons, everything has double meaning whenever a Venezuelan says something there's an implication of something else portrayed. Fourth object is a camera that enforces the subject of double meaning by in the compartment inside the camera where there should be a roll of film there is white sugar replicating cocaine and the ideal of making art under the influence. Last 5th object is kind of a bonus because there's onlyrics one and it embodies the meaning of my life and friends which is that eveything is shared whether it's clothes or instruments, so the point was that for each teacher if they wanted to hear their cassette they would have to ask each other for the cassette player. The holder of everything I choose backpacks that I used during high school and how the thing of me always having to carry a backpack or some type of small holding case because without it I feel naked.

In-Depth project: the streets and garden section

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B24VOAPuwW1WZC1ZQmdxN0tSa1E/view

My city was Moriana. A city hidden in the mountains that is described as a hidden paradise from far, but once you arrive it is dark, has spikes on the walls, people crying, and is an infinite confusing and repetitive paths full of opposite mirrors with no end. Once, the "traveler" arrives it is too late to turn back it is also a city where suicide is very common because of the mental breakdowns of the unpleasant setting. I decided to connect things from my personal life and the conflicts my family is undergoing in my home country at the moment to the assignment. I made a visual piece along with a sound project, one part of the piece written on piano is using only try-tones, which there was a time that for playing "the devils scale" a person would be executed for the fear of the devil being summoned. The piano piece is played on both speakers, but on the right side speaker only is myself reciting a poem i wrote about my country's current situation in english, and decided to write it in Spanish on a shower curtain material and wrote half of the poem on one side and the other half on the other. Placed it on top of the analogue tv, while i put the setting on the tv for channel search which is an endless cycle of searching for channels. This part of the piece connects to moriana's opposite mirrors that never face each other and the endless search for an exit, but never to be found. Now, on the left speaker it is Maduro the current president of Venezuela, speaking to the people at the deceased ex-president Chavez funeral: how he is going to "stabilize the economy or make the streets safer". By combining the three sounds playing in different sequences and synced some at the same time, it creates discomfort and pain to listen like when people were crying in my city. Lastly i choose street objects such as crates and wooden pallets to show the aesthetically pleasing contradicting colors, but in reality is used for trash: same goes for the bed it is actually not a mattress but a frame. From far away it looks comfortable and like you can take a nap, when in fact the whole piece is quite the opposite, you lay to rest and it is hard, along with white noise coming from the tv, and the sound piece behind on the left and right speakers.

Written response to "What is Comics Poetry?"

Personally enjoyed in the first page second paragraph that starts by making the reader question the meaning behind "comic poetry", then it continues explaining poetry being more than rhythmic stanzas after another, but as form of narrative. Before, reading each page i would look at the images and i found funny that the writer talks about Scott McCloud's "closure" theory, where someone looks at multiple images in a sequence therefore naturally trying to connect them together even though they may be completely different and distant from each other, but the fact they may be put next to each other can create the closure theory. I was drawn to the continues enforcement towards the importance of juxtaposition in comic poetry, how ironic drawing of cartooning will create the reader to linger the mystery behind the puzzle of the panels creating sometimes their own plot if there is no captions.

The demonstration of connection the panels together is shown in the structure of going back and forth with the angles of characters perception of the other while having a conversation in the car. I think also culture has to do with how western culture has the reading from left to right, therefore depending on the culture of the writer it will show the structure of how to properly read the comic. For most of the reading i was confused on the repetitive use of "openness" which i came to the conclusion the writer is saying he is free for interpretation throughout his work, when in fact at the end he says, "i mean something different than anything can go". I like throughout the reading the constant self questions he made, making it look like a one-to-one conversation rather than speaking to a large crowd the writer's choice of writing style, along with visual interpretations making the reading a lot easier; therefore leaving the answers to the readers imagination instead of giving them a straight answer.

Small works: garden

link to process and documentation of the performance piece https://vimeo.com/190417811

I used to go a lot with friends to this abandoned missile silo in the Everglades it's hidden, but it's a spot that I've grown up in.It's a military base from the 1960s during the race to space/Cuban missile and it still has a missile there underground. Since its such a well hidden place gang relations take place , and a mutual friend got shot there and then was found floating in one of the canals there. He was only 18 years old, and a photographer taking pictures found the body. This piece is a tribute to him, the glow in the dark paint and space like soundtrack i played on a casiotone m-85 consists of how the area looks at night which was around the estimated time of death. Since there's not pollution around you see shooting stars clearly at night and can actually look at planets no problem without a telescope. There is a little jail/holding cells for i presume war hostages, and there's a basketball courts where different people helped build a garden there in commemoration to our friend. The continues circle i kept drawing around myself represents vanitas, or the so called infinite circle of life. That is the connection i made to the garden assignment is the one we built for him. This happened two years ago, but I remember is because i went to the silo about two weeks ago, and i remembered everything.

Outside Visits: Visionary Metropolis: Tony Garnier's Une Cité Industrielle

Wolfosnian is a place I am very familiar and until one point I knew all of the staff, therefore I don't know if you have to pay or not, but thats beside the point. The familiarity to this place is because in the summers workshops take place for animated and graphic designs students which i was a part of the program for two years in middle school. I like the different works exposed for viewers to see such as the phone collection they have which is something that had been first exhibited in FIU on Flagler and the little museum they have at the University.

The Artist assigned to the class i found less intriguing and aesthetically pleasing to my taste compared to the other artist Alfred Browning Parker. Maybe, my judgement/opinion is the way it is because I associate myself more towards the vintage "modern picture of architecture" rather than the industrial ariel view that Tony Garnier shows in the collection. The artist shows a general view of what to manifest most of the time as a city or town, rather than focusing on specific details of the actual architecture of the structures/buildings. It places the multiple structures in environments in what appears the desert with a few hills here and there along with grass patches and the ocean. I enjoyed the work they have placed on a table with magnifying glasses so you can still look how similar the artist is still detailed over his work which requires precision dedication and patience, but not just on the structure rather the overall image.

Outside Visits: The Discipline of Nature: Architect Alfred Browning Parker in Florida HistoryMiami Museum

History Miami Museum was my first time experiencing it and the collection of artifacts and artists work like the artist we had to specifically go to watch his architectural works. There were two separate buildings which held different types of pieces the main one were one purchases their ticket to enter the downstairs along with the upstairs is more consistent towards memorabilia such as middle eastern hindu culture or sports that are categorized under "ball is life". What i don't understand is why Alfred Browning Parker is being portrayed as an artist because his work is put around sports and cultural holdings that signify the thing being like a rare signed ball by a basketball player close to a dhoti kurt and sari made of silk in the same space or is the message that all the things presented for the viewer is to appreciate the beauty of "the art" in everything shown.

The architectural artist assigned to the class is not only someone that looks for specific details and strange structures to move upon, but he places everything in a significant order that shows that vintage perception of the future of "modern architecture" mostly towards the view of houses. Drafts are done a piece of paper with the measurements and detailed/complex drawings and ideas towards his vision, followed by a 3-D handmade model of the structure made out of wood. Observing the works of wood and knowing that everything in the small scale shown was done by hand makes you appreciate it more, also giving an in depth feel to knowing the artist a little more by the patience and dedication shown to build whatever was in his mind at the moment regardless the time it would take.

Rhino Section: In Depth Project

Readings: Chapter 1 Green Dreams: Gardens

The character develops a feel of uncertainty and the introduction of the passage by using a writing method called, juggling'. It consists of using self reflection lines that converse between placing the reader inside the pages and then pushing them out. Words or phrases, "all landscape painting does a kind of gardening, "though the idealizing impulse makes a show of dilution itself as we move toward the present." Personally, how the writers converts the so called manifestation of a garden, going towards it not being an art rather an enabled landscape that diverges the mind into thinking what is in sight is nothing more than something created by a man enabling a condensed extent of the beauty forrest/landscapes hold.
The artist writes about the replacement of environment of objects the a point substituting the realistic and mixing it by its natural root whether it'd be a painting or picture instead of landscape or something similar. How at the end people tend to forget the pure summary of things and make themselves think that whatever the object they may tend for is a world within their own ideas. Not content the main focal length, instead depriving the public from ,"a literal world with artificial strains" meaning what the writers is holding is that something visibly living may be dying as to the opposite not all processes are in terms aesthetically beautiful, but have their natural way to achieve the end result of its beauty. Because of this humans' tend to recreate many sightings not only to preserve the moment or object or place, it is finally the poem or pictured vision of one mind, never really replicating the true form of the "art".

Invisible Cites by Italo Calvino: Written Response

Invisible Cities isn't really a traditional novel , even though it is labeled under it. A collective 52 more or less short impressionistic passings in my opinion. And this due to no showing of a characters development or a plot to follow upon. I opened the book to the page 19, being cities and signs 2, this being also known for being the adventures and travels of Marco Polo, while being under the 17 years he spent in China. The explorer mentions Kublai Khan over the friendly relations, by the writing of the book it seems that what is being described is someone under opium or a hallucinative drug/plant.
He recounts things being real, but not really being there: such as the girl with the puma, blind man, or lunatic. It shows points of recalling of not knowing reality, and blaming it under the city trying to dig a memory into the visitors mind. Instantly, on page 17 of Cities and Desire 3, is before the writers speaks about something similar to a 'trip story',about being on a sail and the different flags on it breaking the bottles. Portraying the rocking and rollin of the ship aboard at the time. Also, It gives of hints or elects that the person in the book it dying from starvation,

Small Works- Portraits/Propaganda

Digital Forms

First work consist of the post Kate Moss starting out her career in the early 90s, she says, "everything under the sun has been blamed on me, whether it's coke or heroin, i think that's it". Throughout the years like every other person she finds herself in a struggle, and her own battle from the age of 17 is drug abuse. Second, picture is an elderly women"heroin abuser" which would depict the fallen star of KM.
Second work, depicts a lost childhood taken away from its home. One is a picture of my grandparent's kitchen before my family and i left the country, and the other image used is a cousin, my two siblings, and I all in a bathtub. This shows the lost feeling or spirit because the whole family took it pretty hard that we left the country due to the dangerous living conditions in search of a better place to live, so it shows one of my cousins in the bathtub crying.
Third work, is a picture of two kids my parents raised before my brothers and I were born. But them not being the real parents caused conflict between my dad's side of the family and the emotions of the kids they were raising at the time. The other picture is a picture of my brother, the one in the center who seems to be confused in all the commotion this reverts back to lost feeling of trying to find the biological parents of the two kids because none knew who their father were.

Topic: Rhinoceros(Process Video of a Small Work)

Topic: Rhinoceros- Creative impulse(sketchbook)

1st and 2nd works, a strong inspiration from roy lichtenstein came to me along helping tutor a mdc student for a math quiz and would like to start exploring in matters to mix shapes such as a face a natural fragment and combine it with a perfect square/vcube.
